Questions/Suggestions for UMDB

mlbaseballtalk
Jul 08 2005 11:11 PM

-Is there a way we can track the specific Mets rankings in the popularity, or lack thereof, in terms of page hits through the years

I.e. who has spent the longest in the top 20, ect,

And it'd be nice to track that, to see if say there was a reason someone cracked the top 20 (or bottom 20) or whatever

-Uh is there a reason the books in the Amazon ads haven't changed in couple of years?

-Speaking of books, would it be possible to list a Met Bibliography of great books about the Mets (encylopedias, histories, specific years) or specific players?

For example - theoretically speaking - a bunch of idiots at a Mets forum started a campaign to click on some random Met to make him unusually popular only to get a tongue-lashing from UMDB's creator, but then the idiots and the UMDB creator all become buddies.

The books project is in the works.

Stalled when ezboard went down.

Also, is there some sort of page where the non-uniform Mets are grouped together?

And it'd be interesting to see the non-player rankings for page hits (obviously Bobby V leads the Mgrs/Coaches and Seaver leads the broadcasters)

As hinted at above, I think that I'm better off not making that info public.

Laziness. There is a new Amazon display on the main page that varies automatically.

Speaking of books, would it be possible to list a Met Bibliography of great books about the Mets (encylopedias, histories, specific years) or specific players?

Stay tuned.

The mlb.com ad at the top of the page doesn't work :(

Fixed! Thanks for pointing it out.

Wow, I've been holding that in for some time

That was an easy fix. There was a type in the address. I had it as www.mlb..com instead of www.mlb.com.

HAHAHAHA! True good point

Cool. Just funny seeing the same ad for reissues of "Glory Of Their Times," "Veeck As In Wreck" "Boys Of Summer," "Ball Four" and the Stengel and Cobb books for a few years now! Especially considering none of them (except the last few chapters of the Stengel book) really have anything to do with the Mets! =;)

Okay, new suggestion, when you are on a profile page, can there be a way to go to the next player alphabetically? (Zimmer would then go to Aase) or maybe some giant drop down menu so you don't have to keep backtracking to the All Time Roster page?

Just a question

Can anyone access the UMDB right now?

When I try my browser hangs. I don't think the problem is on my end, because I can get into other sites. (Including this one!) But I'd like to confirm that. So please try it and let me know what you see. (Or don't see.)

Thanks.

I just did, no problems here.

That's good! Thanks!

Now the hosting company is going to think I'm nuts for opening that ticket.

Is anyone else able to get in?

metirish, can you check one more thing? Can you click on a link on the site that you haven't visited (one that wouldn't be cached in your browser, like a player you know you haven't clicked on recently) and see if that works for you?

Thank you!

Yancy it is working for me, and I clicked on Manny Hernandez, whom I have certainly never looked up before

Problem appears to be resolved. (If it ever existed.)

Thanks.

And Manny Hernandez thanks you, too. Between Keith and Roberto, he's the forgotten Hernandez.

Then he will be glad to know that I looked at him twice

And I betcha Manny Hernandez will slowly rise up the charts. I had to look him up; I was surprised to see him be such a recent Met (1989), but yet I have zero recollection of him.

His only Met appearance was pitching the sixth inning, striking out one, on September 16, 1989. Keith Hernandez played first that day, and Sid Fernandez started (and got shellacked), making that decidedly the Most "Ernandezy" Day in Mets history.

That is why I looked him up twice seawolf, a name like that you think you can place but I couldn't remember him at all even though 1989 was a year I paid very good attention

I will say this-he has a nice middle name

Rockin' Doc
Jul 15 2005 06:32 PM

His middle name is Baerga? What are the odds?

cooby
Jul 15 2005 07:59 PM

Give the poor guy a look up! That would make four in one day, counting my two and seawolf's one....

You will know what I mean when you see it, Rockin Doc

1 Game and 0 AB - Does this mean we have to go to Chisholm, MN to find him?

Jul 15 2005 09:17 PM

HIs middle name is Cooby! What a bizarre coincidence!

Cooby, I was just messin' with ya.

I looked him up and I understood your affection for his middle name.

Here's an e-mail I just received:

]You have an awesome site that I refer to all the
time. It is much appreciated.

One possible addition that I'd love to see: I
have never been able to find a comprehensive
bibliography of the many Met books that have
ever been published. You could publish a list
and even allow a link for fans to give their
book reviews.

Keep up the good work.

If you want to go in another direction, I'm halfway to committing to doing a metsbooks.com site myself. I just don't want to be redundant with your efforts.

After seeing Edgy's extensive personal library of Mets related books, I think it is safe to say that he has given extensive research to the subject. He already has a great start on a bibliography of Mets related literature.
