Keeping Up With the Old Place

Dear ezboard Family,

The good news is that we have nothing new to report today – the final two steps of the restoral process are happening across the network, and we expect to be on schedule for completion over the weekend. It is important to understand that at this point there is no such thing as a completely restored server – even the servers farthest along in the process require some additional work. On a related subject, we are continuing to work on recovering p087 data from this weekend’s hard drive problem.

For quick reference, I have attached the Q&A from previous day’s update to the bottom of this message.

If you have additional questions please continue to carefully read the balance of this update. Should your question still not be answered after reading this update and you don’t think that our customer service team or help forums can answer your question then please feel free to e-mail me at the address below.

I remain available for and welcome your emails. However, please do not write to me as a way of circumventing the normal CS process, or to request information specific to the status of your board. I will be referring all normal CS requests to the appropriate forum or queue, and cannot provide information on the status of specific boards and servers.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

The old place aka the archives.

Jun 14 2005 03:17 PM

Any plans to save/ move over the old Song Parody threads? I haven't noticed them here yet.

BTW- I clicked on two of the game threads a few minutes ago and go the "Critical Error" message. But I went back a few minutes later and they were ok.

Jun 14 2005 04:13 PM

BTW, they are STILL losing posts over there. The Funny Links thread has been decimated.

]The Funny Links thread has been decimated

That was my legacy.

I'm nothing now.

Jun 14 2005 08:52 PM

It gets worse, soupcan. Your first link in the remaining post there doesn't work anymore either

Eternal Sunshine of the ezBoard Mind

I go to the old place now and then, just like an old love I can't resist her.

Today's update is at least upbeat

Dear ezboard Family,

The restoral process continues on schedule. Four of five steps are nearly complete across the network; the final step will reload all restored data. We still expect all steps to be completed through the weekend. At that point, we will then go to work on restoring all community financial data, addressing Gold Community credits and other financial questions, and sharing our plans for current system improvements and beta testing of the new product.

We are so very sorry for the time the restoral process has taken, and we hope that these updates have helped to reduce your anxiety. We greatly appreciate your patience and support, and want to complete this process as quickly and well as we possibly can

Jun 15 2005 03:12 PM

The restoral process may take forever, but they don't miss a beat when asking people for more $$$$.

I think I hat them.

Jun 15 2005 04:34 PM

You know what I miss about the old place? Two very specific things. One, the "What To Do With Mr. Koo" thread, featuring all the songs (Norrin's original, my Volume 2, and I believe there was a third).

Two... the spring prediction game thread, where we all posted our guesses for the club HR leader, games played at all the positions, wins, etc. Is that gone?

Jun 15 2005 06:58 PM

Yes, but it'll be ALL back this weekend!

Jun 15 2005 07:05 PM

(which one of us breaks the news to cooby that there's no Santa Claus or Easter Bunny?)

Jun 15 2005 07:06 PM

(don't forget the Tooth Fairy; we're getting our money back, too)

Jun 16 2005 06:00 AM

It's very slow this morning! They must be working on it!!

I TOLD you so, Scarlet!

Jun 16 2005 06:48 AM

Talk to me when my adopt-a-prospect threads have been restored.

Jun 16 2005 12:28 PM

There is some stuff back, but don't get excited yet

Jun 16 2005 12:43 PM

Okay, Willets, you can get excited...

Jun 16 2005 12:43 PM

That's classic, for sure.

But I won't be happy until my adoptees papers are back in order.

Jun 16 2005 12:44 PM

Thanks for a look back a classic thread, very funny.

Jun 16 2005 01:58 PM

Now that I've had a place to look, it does still look a little desolate

A couple of the more recent archives which had gone blank - like X, XI, XII - have returned. Nothing complete as of yet ... but it's getting there.

I found Widey's and my wedding pictures!

Five more Sal Mofo threads appeared. Now we have 6!

Jun 18 2005 07:12 AM

Those were really easy to restore, actually. I just stopped because I wanted to try another forum

Congratulations, you two!

I had no idea!

Somewhat heated reaction to Ouch:

Jun 23 2005 06:46 PM

I guess I wasn't expecting anything better, so I'm not as shocked and hurt as those posters.

Kase - thanks again for setting us up in our new home!

I second that.

I haven't checked on this much in the past couple of days, but it's pretty obvious there were people counting on getting all their board back, plus extra compensation as well. So much for customer faith.

It's quite the slap in the face.

Jun 24 2005 06:07 AM

How long will ezboard host conversations like those threads. It's really kinda
fascinating how emotional and attached people get to boards.

As for moving, we stepped in dog poo and got lucky. Thankfully it was before
we renewed which was looming on the horizon.

It'll be interesting to see if ezboard can weather this. I think I'll backup now,
again ... ;-)

I knew we were in trouble when they only offered $5,000 for information about the hacker. He or she's potentially (I'd say probably) destroyed your company, you're paying overtime hand-over-fist, and you offer a used Toyota Tercel to bring to justice perhaps your only hope for restitution?

Jun 24 2005 07:30 AM

On a side note, does anyone know what forum/page one might find the "offseason
songs the Ramones covered" thread. I'd like to see if it survived.

Jun 24 2005 07:32 AM

Not sure how much is missing...

Jun 24 2005 07:36 AM

Thanks, you're a doll.

It seems to be intact.

Ah, yes, now he cares about Restoration Nation.

It should be somewhere's in NBF archives. Willets should know.

Jun 24 2005 11:53 AM

Remember that smiley with it's tounge sticking out? Anyone?

Jun 24 2005 12:33 PM

Do you mean this one?

BTW, my kids always liked the one with the smiley face going into the microwave.

Is the old CPF serving as a sort of archive unto itself or should we be moving selected threads (for instance the song parodies) from there to here? If we are looking to move some threads, where would they best be placed?

Jul 10 2005 05:25 PM

Heck, there's still stuff there that could be manually restored if anybody felt like it
